Kerrie Alley-Violette Nominated for 2020 Teacher of the Year
Sanborn Teacher Nominated For State’s Top Teacher Award:
This week, the New Hampshire Department of Education announced that Kerrie Alley-Violette, a business technology teacher at Sanborn Regional High School, has been nominated for the 2020 New Hampshire Teacher of the Year Award. Mrs. Alley joins 37 other educators from around the state who have also received a nomination for the award.
Mrs. Alley is the school’s Career Pathways Coordinator. In this role, she organizes hundreds of work-based opportunities for students from job shadows and career speakers series to industry tours and credit-bearing internships and extended learning opportunities. Each year, hundreds of students take advantage of programming developed by Mrs. Alley.
Sanborn’s Career Pathways program, under Mrs. Alley’s direction, is considered a model program in the state as a way for all students to engage in authentic, real-world learning opportunities. Mrs. Alley coordinates efforts with hundreds of community-based partners, businesses, and organizations in the greater Kingston, Newton, and Fremont area.
Mrs. Alley is considered a leader in the state’s efforts to bolster extended learning opportunities. On September 25, 2018, the New Hampshire Work-Based Learning Group honored her with the 2018 Teacher/Faculty Champion Award for her efforts. Mrs. Alley has been asked to present her work at several statewide meetings and conferences.
Principal Brian M. Stack had this to say about Mrs. Alley’s nomination: “The New Hampshire Teacher of the Year Award is a prestigious honor given to one NH educator who can serve to inspire and motivate all NH educators to maintain their focus on providing quality, rigorous, and relevant instruction to students. We are honored to have Mrs. Alley as a valued member of our Sanborn family and community.”
Mrs. Alley will share her work with other award nominees at a celebration event in Concord on April 1. From there, an award selection committee will conduct site visits to nominees’ classrooms and invite finalists to deliver an oral presentation on their qualifications. The final selection and announcement of the 2020 New Hampshire of the Year recipient will be made in September of 2019.
