North Country ELO Network Hosts Career Fair

North Country Career Fair Hosted at the Omni Mount Washington

North Country students and Extended Learning Coordinators gathered on April 30th to learn and gain insight on what careers North Country businesses could offer the next generation of employees.  The invitation went out to all area high schools with five schools attending the event at the Bretton Woods base lodge.  The schools included: Littleton High School, White Mountains Regional, Profile High School, Colebrook Academy, and Lisbon High School.

The 200 students from the five area high schools went through a “trade show” style fair, visiting the booths of nearly 40 area businesses.  Community business leaders answered a variety of questions about their careers and gave the students some great giveaways for asking questions.

Will Stewart, executive director of StayWorkPlay NH addressed the students before they entered the fair.  Mr. Stewart spoke to the students about all the great things New Hampshire has to offer and why this group of future employees should choose New Hampshire first.  He also told the students that New Hampshire currently has the second oldest working population, and there are about 20,000 open jobs in the state.

Connie Ward (ELO Coordinator at Littleton High School), Mike Curtis and Lisa Daigle (Futures Program WMRHS) and Christina Baker (Senior Recruitment Manager at the Omni Mount Washington) collaborated to make this event a reality.  The event took about eight weeks to plan and couldn’t have happened without the support of the local businesses.  The student feedback was great, over 40 students requested an internship for the 2019-2020 school year after attending the fair.  Any businesses interested in mentoring an intern should call their local high school.
