Sanborn’s Alley-Violette Named ELO Coordinator of the Year

The New Hampshire Extended Learning Opportunity Network (NH ELON) announced that they have selected Sanborn’s Kerrie Alley-Violette as the recipient of the 2021 New Hampshire Extended Learning Opportunity Coordinator of the Year Award. This award is sponsored by the New Hampshire Lodging & Restaurant Association.

Mrs. Alley-Violette, a business and technology teacher for the school, coordinates all Career Pathways and Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) programs for students. These provide a vast array of career exploration and credit-bearing learning opportunities for students to pursue outside of school, including job shadows and career speakers series to industry tours and credit-bearing internships and other extended learning opportunities. Each year, hundreds of students take advantage of work-based learning programming developed by Mrs. Alley-Violette.

To put it in perspective, in the 2019-2020 school year Mrs. Alley-Violette collaborated with over 85 community partners and organizations to bring in over 50 community career speakers and provide 134 students with various ELOs.

Sanborn’s Career Pathways program is considered a model program in the state providing pathways for students to engage in authentic, real-world learning opportunities. The program has grown tremendously over the past few years under her direction and leadership. Mrs. Alley-Violette shares her expertise regularly with educators working in similar roles in other New Hampshire schools.

Principal Brian M. Stack had this to say about Mrs. Alley-Violette. “I can’t think of a better recipient for this award. At Sanborn, Mrs. Alley-Violette works tirelessly to bring innovative and relevant work-based experiences to all of our students. She recognizes the importance of helping all students find their pathway to success, and many have come back after graduation to tell us how critical her program was to their success. We are fortunate that she is a part of our Sanborn family.”

School Counseling Director Heidi Leavitt added this: “Kerrie is truly a teacher who does not see limitations in students. I am continually impressed with her ability to find a match between a student, their academic needs, and an experience that will help to engage that student in their learning, oftentimes in ways that they have never been engaged in before.”
